IATSE convention in 2005 - Tom Short and the National Board are up for
reelection - Let your voice be heard!
Free Web Space is available on our server for those members who wish to form
a group like the Coalition for a Democratic
Union within their local and need space on a web server.
Technical assistance is available (time permitting) for members who want to
set up their own website.
The IA’s official site and the official sites of most IA locals lack an
area for member discourse forums, listserves etc.
We have some extra space and bandwidth to donate on a first come first
served basis.
We can create a pretty private forum for a local and its members:
a) to discuss issues that they would like to be addressed at the
forthcoming IA convention
b) to have the candidates who want to be your delegates to the convention
make their case for election and answer questions from your membership on
their positions etc.
c) to have a space to discuss other issues and ideas that are important on
the Local level. etc.
The convention is way more than a casual get together. It has considerable
power to act and conducts very serious business indeed - for instance:
At a prior convention the delegates voted to give the international
president the power not only to negotiate contracts but to sign, seal and
deliver them without having to seek approval through a vote of the rank
and file members who are obligated to work under those contracts - many
examples of these contracts that effect the film/tv production locals are
at the website.
