update 1/25/02

Greetings All,
The Motion Picture Machine Operators of IATSE Local 182 are currently
engaged in a contract battle with Loews Cineplex Entertainment. They are
trying to replace about half of our hours with managers in an attempt to
"cut costs," despite the fact that they have voted to give their top
execs $4.4 Million dollars in bonuses. In the meantime the
projectionists are asking merely to keep our wages and jurisdiction. The
results thus far have been federal mediation and 48 pending counts of
unfair labor practice against Loews. What can you do?

Firstly, call Loews President and CEO, Lawrence J. Ruisi at (212)833-6200
ext. 6700 AND email
SaveOurJobs@iatse182.org and express your disapproval
of Loews union-busting tactics.

Secondly, come to our rallies:

Friday January 25, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Loews Harvard Square Cinemas (Harvard
Sq. off the Red Line)

and a STREETHEAT action on Wednesday January 30, 3:30-5:30 p.m. at Loews
Boston Common Cinemas (Boylston off the Green Line, Downtown Crossing or
Chinatown off the Orange Line, or Park off the Red Line)

Greetings all,
I am writing to you all in great desperation.  I am a union movie theatre
projectionist from Boston, MA.  My job, as well as the those of my fellow
projectionists, is in danger.  We are currently in negotiations with Loews
Cinemas and they want to cut our hours in half in an attempt to replace us
with managers and eventually kick us out all together.  They do this in the
guise of "cutting costs," however, they have recently voted to give their
executives $4.4 Million in bonuses.  Meanwhile, we are asking merely to keep
our current wages and hours.  Please help us by sending us an email telling
Loews that you want them to keep the union in.  We will gather them together
and forward them to the proper authorities.  It doesn't matter where you're
from, an injury to one is an injury to all.  Please send Emails to:

SaveOurJobs@iatse182.org

This is of the gravest urgency, as what is probably our final negotiation
meeting is scheduled for December 20th.  Thank you all and keep fighting the
good fight.

SMB
Union Projectionist with IATSE Local 182
Boston, MA
